    Independently perform complex applications/web development for projects of large to very large size and complexity; typically work as part of a team to implement business solutions. Responsible for all aspects of application development cycle. Code advanced and complex software solutions.

    Job-Specific Responsibilities

    The Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) seeks a talented, creative, and enthusiastic individual to develop web and mobile tools for use in early-stage product development and advanced research. As part of the Assistive Technology Initiative (ATI), the candidate will work with teams within and beyond Harvard to build new tools for biometrics and human performance enhancement that make up the core of multiple emerging startups.

    Develop applications that run on mobile targets and interact with custom hardware using communication protocols such as BLE.
    Develop interfaces with custom and SaaS applications for use by multiple ATI project teams.
    Work in an agile development environment, participate in the application development life cycle, and successfully deliver projects and ongoing enhancements through release management and change management processes using tools such as GitHub.
    Perform unit testing and review functional test scripts to ensure that appropriate testing occurs to meet all requirements.
    Ensure that applications have sophisticated scheduling tools, error handling, audit, and monitoring of data jobs and services. Participate in application audits when necessary.
    Function as a technical lead and mentor peer developers.

    Identify and evaluate opportunities to improve services
    Contribute ideas to coding best practices and new technologies
    Draw on relationship and technical skills to act as technical liaison to internal and external clients
    Abide by and follow the Harvard University IT technical standards, policies and Code of Conduct

    Basic Qualifications

    Minimum of two years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience

    Additional Qualifications and Skills

    Bachelor’s degree in computer science, similar technical field of study or equivalent practical experience.
    4+ years of programming experience, with one or more of the following: Java, Python, React Native, C#, C, C++, Javascript, Node.js and packages (npm, MongoDB, Express, React, NestJS, Loopback, Nginx), RESTFUL APIs, JSON, & custom data formats,
    Knowledge of AWS systems (including EC2, S3, CloudFront), GitHub, Bitbucket, Jira Software.
    Excellent communication, analytical, problem solving, and data analysis skills.
    Experience with user interface design and data visualization is a plus

    This is a 2-year term position.

    Many SEAS employees are eligible for Flexible Work Arrangements, which may be explored during the interview process.
    The department is currently operating in a modified manner resulting from restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Until the department returns to full operational on-campus status, this position will require a combination of on-site and remote work. The specific on-site hours will be determined throughout the onboarding process, although they may change in the future based on the needs of the department.
