    The Institute for Software Research (ISR) is one of the seven academic departments of the Carnegie Mellon School of Computer Science (SCS). ISR hosts the SCS PhD programs in Software Engineering (SE) and Societal Computing (SC), along with six professional masters programs. We also host the undergraduate minor in SE. Our research and educational programs focus on software engineering, hardware/software systems and various cross disciplinary topics related to societal computing, such as security and privacy engineering, sustainability, energy efficiency.


    ISR is seeking to hire a Senior Academic Program Manager. In this role, you are responsible for comprehensive program management of the MSE Professional Programs. The role involves significant outreach due to the interdisciplinary nature of our programs and various external collaborations including resolving complexities with interdisciplinary or out‐of‐Pittsburgh programs. You will be expected to supervise the program’s administrative staff. You will also be required to coordinate the efforts to maintain a library of courses for delivery by distance and online technologies and manage the production processes. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate superior communication skills, as well as the ability to multitask effectively.


    Your core responsibilities will include:


    Ensuring integrity and quality of program(s) in partnership with director. Ensures all operational aspects of the program, day‐to‐day and longer term, are managed effectively. Performs related assessment and advisory functions. This work includes supervising the program’s administrative staff, assisting the director with budgetary issues, executing and implementing decisions made by the director, reviewing FCE information and implementing additional feedback/evaluation procedures, and coordinating the efforts maintain a library of courses for delivery by distance and online technologies and manage the production processes. The incumbent will also oversee the program’s facilities, coordinating with the departmental business office and other university entities as may be required.

    Financial Management: Work with departmental business office to ensure proper financial reporting and forecasting for program revenues and expenses; supervise the compensation for course developers, instructors, and royalty receipts on distance education courses; reconcile budgets, per semester and as appropriate; present, prepare and track TA and MSE Fellow payments/stipends; work with course developers on disbursements; oversee development of MOUs and financial agreements; coordinate with business office on educational project agreements for studio and practicum sponsors as may be necessary.

    Develops strategies for improving demographics and applicant quality. Oversees the admission process; represents the program to external and internal audiences and cultivates relationships with other schools, universities and/or corporate clients. Completes special project work or research as directed.

    Manages relationships to facilitate or expand opportunities for interdisciplinary programs and external collaborations/partnerships (including corporate/private sector organizations). This work will include close coordination with the MSE staff member assigned to corporate relations.

    Researches current and emerging academic trends at the request and direction of the program director and makes recommendations on enhancements to curriculum.

    Reviews operational and academic policies and procedure and incorporates best practices or changes to ensure program effectiveness and compliance.

    Performs related duties as assigned.



    Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of training and experience required; Master’s preferred

    A minimum of 5+ years experience with academic program management and academic advising experience required

    Educational Marketing and Outreach Experience required

    Strong financial acumen, organization, planning, problem‐solving and reasoning skills required

    Distance education or executive education program experience preferred
